Alex Foillard
BEAUJOLAIS
In the Beaujolais vineyards, it was the Morgon cru which, from the 1980s and 1990s, was the epicenter of a return to healthy viti-vinicultural practices: no weedkillers or chemical products in the vines, no chaptalization, vinification in carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts, zero or very low dose of added sulphur.
Following the generation of pioneers like Jean Foillard, a young generation embodies this new spirit in Beaujolais, such as Alex Foillard, the son, who chose to settle in the Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly appellations. Following the path traced by his father, Alex, the son of Jean and Agnès Foillard, created his own estate in 2015 with plots in the Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly appellations as well as in Beaujolais-Villages. In all, 2.5 ha of mainly old Gamay vines, located on the hillside and worked without inputs to obtain healthy grapes of perfect maturity which allow the natural free flow of vinification in carbonic maceration: wines full of fruit, juicy, ample, sapid and straight, with the character that marks their terroir origin.
