Bruno Schueller - Domaine Gérard Schueller & Fils
ALSACE
In the Haut-Rhin, near Eguisheim, in the village of Husseren-les-Châteaux: off the beaten track in Alsace, Bruno Schueller crafts white and red wines that reflect the strong personality of both the terroir and the winegrower himself. Well beyond Alsace, Schueller is a great figure in the natural wine world.
In his village of Husseren-les-Châteaux, south-west of Colmar, Gérard Schueller began bottling his wines at the estate in the 1950s. His son Bruno joined him in 1982 and has continued on the same path with ever more "paysan" rigour, intransigence and verve. The estate now spans 10 hectares planted with different Alsatian grape varieties, spread around Husseren-les-Châteaux, such as Rebgarten (Sylvaner), Stich (Riesling, Pinot Gris), Hohrain (Pinot gris, Gewurztraminer) or Valdele (Pinot Noir) and on Eguisheim (Grand Cru Eichberg: Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Grand Cru Pfersigberg: Riesling, Pinot Noir). A special mention for the vines located in Obermorschwihr near the abbey of Marbach: they are distinguished by the terroir of a lieu-dit called Bildstoecklé, considered by Bruno a true Grand Cru, with its stony clay-limestone soil and its full south-facing aspect, well ventilated by the wind. Characterful terroirs sublimated by the quest for purity, intensity and authenticity, but also by an experimental approach that goes off the beaten path in Alsace: original and truly vibrant wines.
