Champagne Jacques Lassaigne - Emmanuel Lassaigne
CHAMPAGNE
The singular terroir of Montgueux, in the Aube, has an old reputation: it is today carried high by Emmanuel Lassaigne and his completely natural champagnes.
The terroir of Montgueux is unique. A hill with chalky limestone soil that rises from the plain around Troyes, the capital of the Aube, an "inspired hill" sometimes referred to as the "Montrachet" of Champagne, with some 200 hectares of vines almost entirely planted with Chardonnay. This is where the Lassaigne family estate is located, led since 1999 by Emmanuel Lassaigne, a wholesome, generous and good-natured winemaker, and an important figure of Montgueux. The estate consists of 3.5 ha of Chardonnay, as well as around 2 ha of vines selected from neighbours. For single-plot cuvées (Le Cotet) or from blends of plots, a single philosophy presides: no inputs, the finest quality grapes, minimal interventionist vinification (indigenous yeasts, low sulfur content, zero dosage) and long aging.
