Dominique Belluard
SAVOIE
In search of a true expression of his terroir of Mont Blanc, through the rare Gringet grape variety, Dominique Belluard produces still whites and, following local tradition, sparkling wines using the traditional method, with the desire to produce pure, living wines.
From the family vines of the village of Ayse – a little-known appellation of the Côte d'Arve in Savoie (Haute-Savoie) – Dominique Belluard has been, since 1988, the flagship estate of this vineyard dedicated to a rare and singular white grape variety, Gringet, not found elsewhere, of which only 22 hectares remain. Farmed biodynamically since 2001, its 12 hectares include, in addition to Gringet, a little Altesse (8%) and Mondeuse (2%). Dominique Belluard produces wines in search of a true expression of his “Mont Blanc terroir” – the limestone scree of the Chablais massif – through Gringet. No chemicals, indigenous yeasts and bacteria, élevage in concrete “eggs” or amphorae, low doses of sulphur: the desire to produce pure and living wines implies uncompromising, ever more demanding work, but also an experimental approach for a grape variety of which he is, in fact, the only true producer.
