Mongarda
VENETO
The region of Treviso, in Veneto, is distinguished by its famous sparkling wine, prosecco, made from the local eponymous grape variety – now officially called glera –, whose best terroirs are located around the villages of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, classified DOCG ( denominazione di origin controlled and guaranteed). The prize de mousse is carried out in closed vats under pressure (method known as Martinotti or Charmat) and gives, for the best, a fine and light sparkling wine that is more or less dry (Brut) or sweet (Extra-dry).
Established since 1978 in Col San Martino, a village located on the hills close to Valdobbiadene, the Tormena family cultivates 12 ha of vines – 7 main plots, including Vigna San Gallo – devoted to the very majority local glera grape variety, but also to some old autochthonous varieties (bianchetta, verdiso, perera, boschera). According to the requirements of organic cultivation, respectful work with the soil, the plant and biodiversity, and typical wines of the rural tradition of the Treviso region.
