Porta del Vento - Marco Sferlazzo
SICILY
Sicily, on its high slopes and subjected to the fresh winds of the seaside, reserves beautiful surprises, far from the mass of unexciting wines which unfortunately characterizes the reputation of the island. Thus, with particularly favorable pedoclimatic conditions and great intransigence in the work, Marco Sferlazzo offers, on his Porta del Vento estate, admirable wines of freshness and naturalness.
It was in 2003 that Marco Sferlazzo really formalized his domain, after more modest beginnings. “Porta del vento”, aptly named: the vines are located in the western part of Sicily, south-west of Palermo, on the hills of Camporeale, which are subject to the fresh winds coming from the nearby sea. The vineyard now comprises 18 ha of vines on clayey-sandy slopes, around 600 m in altitude, and the grape varieties are mainly indigenous varieties, catarratto (white) and perricone (red). Particularly favorable climatic conditions (excellent natural sanitary state of the grapes), biodynamic cultivation, controlled yields, minimalist interventions: Marco Sferlazzo is in search of perfectly natural wines with great digestibility.
