Patrick Bouju - La Bohême
AUVERGNE
Within the generation which restores color to the vineyards of Auvergne, Patrick Bouju has established himself as an essential figure, a pioneer, in an approach entirely focused on the true and natural expression of the terroir(s) through wines that are juicy, dense, deep and very drinkable.
Patrick Bouju strives, with his Domaine La Bohème created in 2004 (4.7 ha), to highlight some of the most beautiful terroirs of the Auvergne (clay- calcareous or of volcanic origin) and their grape varieties. With the well-established ambition of producing real, terroir-driven wines in the most natural way: herbal treatments, small yields. Vinification is done with native yeasts and without sulphur, either in long but gently macerated destemmed grapes or in carbonic maceration, followed by long aging. Produced from his own vines but also from grapes purchased from other winegrower friends, Bouju's wines require time to fully express themselves: full, juicy Gamays, rich, floral and fruity (Violette, Lulu), dense and fleshy (La Bohème), a Pinot noir with a very unique terroir-driven profile (Cailloux), but also whites (The Blanc, Sein pour Sein) and natural sparkling wines.
