In 2006, when Rémi Dufaitre and his partner Laurence acquired vines in the Brouilly and Côtes-de-Brouilly appellations, they immediately chose to follow in the footsteps of prominent figures, such as Jean Foillard, who had pioneered natural wine in the Beaujolais region. Initially supplying the local cooperative, the estate soon expanded to 11 hectares, releasing its first cuvées in 2010. The grapes—Gamay, but also Chardonnay—are cultivated organically and vinified using native yeasts and no additions (exccept an occasional tiny dose of sulphur before bottling). Beaujolais-Villages red and white, Brouilly and Côtes-de-Brouilly: these wines stand out for their purity and drinkability, with the fruit perfectly complementing the expression of terroir, in the most natural way.
Chardonnay, a minority grape in Beaujolais, produces very flavorful whites and such is this cuvée from Rémi Dufaitre: fresh notes of white fruits, unctuous with a slight tension—a wine that reveals itself without pretence.
